In afternoon trading on Friday, Materials stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 2.4% loss. Within the sector, Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold (NYSE: FCX) and LyondellBasell Industries NV (NYSE: LYB) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 9.4% and 4.8%, respectively. Among the high volume ETFs, one ETF closely following materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLB), which is down 2.6% on the day, and down 6.78% year-to-date. Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold, meanwhile, is down 44.87% year-to-date, and LyondellBasell Industries NV is up 13.30% year-to-date. Combined, FCX and LYB make up approximately 9.0% of the underlying holdings of XLB.
